  • Registration Fee: The Registration Fee is 200 € (plus an additional 60 € per each accompanying person), and includes free access to the conference and the facilities of Parque de las Ciencias, abstract booklet and other material, welcome cocktail, coffee-breaks and conference dinner, excursion to Alhambra and the proceedings of the conference. This should be paid by Credit Card only. A Payment Form will be available in the webpage, to be sent by Fax to the Organization at the IAC Headquarters (00 34 922 605298). Registration must be completed by June 1st. Later registration is not possible!

  • Lodging: As you may know, Granada is one the most important tourist resorts in Spain. As a consequence, there are Hotels and Residences of all colours, likes and costs. The organization will not take care of lodging! A short list of recommended facilities will be offered by the LOC in the WEB page and the delegates are expected to make the appropriate reservations for themselves and at their own responsibility. Please take into consideration the fact that September is high season and hotels can become full very quickly. It is worth noting that you can find very good offers through the Internet (there are various portals, see e.g. www.booking.com), even better than those that we will be suggesting in our list. The “Parque de las Ciencias” is within walking distance (10 to 25 minutes) of most hotels in the centre of the city. Take your best chances!

  • Grants: The organization will try to raise some funds for a certain number of Registration Fee exceptions, lodging assistances (in an appropriate place) and/or travel aids. These will be assigned preferably to senior researchers, colleagues from developing countries or young postdocs and PhD students. A process of selection for these funds is hereby declared open! Those wishing to get a grant should fill in the “Grant Application” at the end of this document. A pdf file, including the completed form and an extended abstract of the contribution, should be sent by e-mail to the LOC and SOC chairman Juan Antonio Belmonte jba@iac.es before March 1st 2008.

  • SEAC Grant: A grant of 450 euros will be offered by SEAC to a young scientist working in cultural astronomy. Applicants must be postgraduate students working on either a Masters or a PhD degree with a subject on some aspect of astronomy in culture or must have completed such a degree no earlier than 2005. Applicants may be no older than 35. The grant may be shared by two or more authors of the same paper. The grant will be presented upon registration at the conference. The process of selection will be under the responsibility of the Vice-President Elect of SEAC Prof. Mary Blomberg (mary@mikrob.com), to whom applications together with an abstract of 600 words plus bibliography should be sent.

  • Lectures and presentations: The Conference will consist of Plenary and Parallel Sessions according to the Preliminary Programme enclosed in this document. Two opening conferences are expected as well. There are plans for two open public lectures.

  • Plenary Sessions: These will consist of 30 (25+5) minute communications on special topics, from speakers invited by the SOC, covering all the aspects covered by the Conference from Prehistory to state-of-the-art Cosmology. A preliminary list of speakers is enclosed below.

  • Parallel Sessions: The “astronomy and culture” and the “modern cosmology” communities will split into parallel sessions in order to discuss more specific topics of the respective disciplines. Communications of 15 (12+3) to 20 (15+5) minutes are expected within these sessions. Posters and short poster presentation (5 minutes) are also contemplated. Under special circumstances, as determined by the SOC or LOC, some of these contributions may be selected to be included in the Plenary Sessions.

  • Excursions: Two cultural excursions have been planned.

1) Morning excursion to visit the Alhambra in Granada (Wednesday 10th). We are in

contact with the local institutions to find some support for this visit.

2) Full day excursion to the megalithic monuments of Antequera and the mosque of

Cordoba (Saturday 13th). Limited to 50 persons! There will be an extra cost of around 50€ (TBC), including lunch, transport, entrances and local guides.
